Set up Defender for your organization

Install Defender on your computer, connect your AI tools and verify capture, then share it with your team.

Defender is the endpoint application that connects supported AI tools and syncs approved activity to your organization's Cortex workspace. Set it up on your own computer first, then share it with your team.

Before you begin

Set up your computer

  1. Download the installer. On Fleet, select Get installer. In Install Defender, choose the Device platform, download the package and verify its checksum.

  2. Install Defender. Run the installer, then open Cortex.

  3. Sign in. On Welcome to Defender, select Get started. Enter your Organization domain, the part after @ in your work email. Select Continue with your company's identity provider, or Sign in with email, and complete sign-in in the browser.

  4. Connect your AI tools. On Choose your connections, or Choose the apps to connect if browser setup is not offered, select your apps, then Review setup. Review the changes and select Connect 1 for one app, or Set up connections when browser sync is included.

  5. Check activity. Send a new prompt and select Check activity.

Done when Defender shows Activity captured, and you find the matching prompt or conversation in Cortex Atlas. The record in Atlas confirms workspace delivery and attribution.

Share Defender with your team

  1. Complete employee notice. Complete any required notice or consent process for monitored AI activity.

  2. Share Defender with employees. On Fleet, select Get installer. Under Share the installer, select Generate download link, then Copy link, and send the link through your approved internal channel. Anyone with the link can download.
