Control capture and sync

Updated

Cortex captures and syncs activity while it is running. Select Stop Cortex to stop both on this device.

Stop Cortex

  1. Open Sensor.
  2. Select Stop Cortex beside the status at the top.
  3. In Stop Cortex?, select Stop Cortex to confirm.
  4. Wait for the Sensor status to show Stopped.

Stop Cortex confirmation dialog

Cortex does not capture or sync activity while it is stopped. If a connected agent stops responding, restart the agent.

Start Cortex again

  1. Open Sensor.
  2. Select Start Cortex.
  3. Wait for the status at the top to show Running.
  4. Send a new prompt and confirm it appears in Home → Activity.

If an agent does not respond after Cortex restarts, restart the agent or send a new prompt.

Stop one capture path

Use the page that owns that source:

  • Proxy → Agents for command-line agents and Cursor IDE local-history import
  • Proxy → Browser & Desktop for web and desktop sources
  • Contact the Chaos Labs team for local MCP servers

For a command-line agent, open its row and turn off Recording allowed. For Cursor IDE, turn off Import Cursor local history. For a web or desktop source, open its row and turn off the Capture switch for that source. Restart the source if Cortex asks you to.

Turning off a capture switch stops capture and workspace sync for that source. While Web routing is on, supported sites continue to route through Cortex's local inspection point, and traffic from a source with capture off is passed through without being captured. To stop local inspection, turn off Web routing. To remove certificate trust, turn off Certificate for Chrome.
