Roles and visibility in the Cortex dashboard

Updated

Roles, visibility, teams, and departments control different parts of the Cortex dashboard.

The Cortex dashboard shows activity that Sensor has synced to the organization workspace:

  • Role controls which administrative actions a person can take.
  • Visibility controls whose data that person can see.
  • Organization structure groups people into teams and departments.

Changing one does not change the others. An Admin can have Self visibility, and department membership does not grant access to other people in that department.

Before using the dashboard, verify that Sensor captured and synced a prompt.

Roles

RoleWhat it allows
MemberUses the Cortex dashboard with the assigned visibility. Cannot manage organization capture policy or user access.
AdminManages organization settings and capture policy with the assigned visibility.

Being an Admin does not grant broader data visibility.

Visibility

VisibilityData included
SelfThe person's own scoped data only.
TeamThe person's data and data from active Members of any team they belong to.
OrganizationOrganization-wide data on dashboard pages that support it.

Role and visibility are separate. An Admin with Self visibility can manage settings but sees only their own analytical data.

Teams and departments

Teams and departments serve different purposes.

Teams

  • Team membership determines the additional people included by Team visibility.
  • A person can belong to multiple teams.
  • A person's primary team is used for team-level reporting.
  • Team visibility includes active Members who share at least one team.

Departments

  • Departments organize teams and people for reporting and organizational context.
  • Department membership does not grant Team visibility.
  • Moving a person or team to another department does not change that person's role or visibility.
